Dr David Geddes, a part-time GP in York, was appointed head of primary care commissioning for NHS England in December last year and is now one of the most influential GPs in England.
Dr Geddes, who has a special interest in mental health and dermatology, and also practises acupuncture for musculoskeletal problems, qualified as a doctor in 1987 from the Royal London Hospital Medical College.
Before being appointed to the high-profile NHS England role, he led primary care commissioning for North Yorkshire and York PCT.
He moved to Yorkshire to train as a GP on the York vocational training scheme in 1989 and became a GP principal in 1993. Since then he has practises at the Clifton Medical Practice, where he still sees patients every Friday.
He lives in York with his wife and three children.
