Former housing minister John Healey has been named as shadow health secretary in new Labour leader Ed Miliband's first shadow cabinet.
Mr Healey, who has served as MP for Wentworth and Dearne since 1997, has previously held positions within the Treasury and been minister for local government.
He replaces defeated Labour leadership candidate Andy Burnham, who has taken up a new role as shadow education secretary despite playing an instrumental role in opposing health secretary Andrew Lansley's NHS reforms.
Diane Abbott, also defeated by Mr Miliband in the Labour leadership contest, has been handed the role of shadow public health minister, with Liz Kendall also appointed as a shadow health minister.
