Dr Louise Irvine is a force to be reckoned with. She led the campaign that saved Lewisham Hospital A&E in south-east London from being downgraded after winning a High Court judicial review and appeal – a victory she calls ‘so satisfying’.
And this year also saw her stand as a National Health Action Party candidate for the European parliament, winning 23,000 votes.
She urges the next generation of GPs to follow suit. ‘Don’t take things lying down,’ she advises. ‘If you think something is wrong, try to change it. And you are more likely to succeed if you act together with others.’
