Almost half of patients struggling through cancer treatment are also facing a battle with bill payments, Macmillan Cancer Support has warned.
The charity surveyed 2,000 people to estimate some 400,000 people have fallen into arrears with bills while tackling the disease. Causes listed were having to give up work, paying for additional treatments not covered by the NHS and travel to and from treatment appointments, reports the Independent.
Lynda Thomas, Macmillan’s chief executive, said the figures were ’truly distressing’.
