BMA warns ‘limited’ Pfizer and Moderna supply will delay vaccination programme

The BMA has said it is ‘concerned’ that ‘limited availability’ of the Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines could cause a delay to the vaccination programme.

It comes as all remaining adults last week became eligible for the Covid jab in England, with texts sent out to 18-20-year-olds inviting them to book from Friday.

In the BMA’s latest GP Committee bulletin, it said that it is ‘concerned about the limited availability of Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations’.

This ‘may mean that many young adults will have to wait several weeks before getting this much-needed protection’, it added.

A DHSC spokesperson stressed that the Government is confident in its supplies and that young adults are currently able to book their vaccinations.

According to NHS England, more than a million Covid vaccinations were booked in just two days after adults aged 18 to 20 became eligible on Friday. The figure does not include jabs booked at GP-led sites or delivered at walk-in centres.

People aged 39 or under are being offered the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine in line with JCVI recommendations.

The DHSC today announced that 82.5% of people in the UK have now had a single dose, while 60% have had a second dose.

They also said they were on track to offer a first dose to all adults by the recently revised deadline of 19 July.

What on earth would the BMA know about it? Best to get back to supplying doctors with KY jelly for the next government assault.

BMA needs a sit down meeting, with itself. Bring the chilli sauce and matches. May ignite something into this thin air.
