BMA announces new GPC England executive team

The BMA has announced the appointment of a new executive team for its England GP Committee, led by new chair Dr Farah Jameel.

Doncaster LMC chief executive Dr Dean Eggitt, Lincolnshire LMC medical director Dr Kieran Sharrock and Kingston GP Federation medical director and PCN clinical director Dr Richard Van Mellaerts have joined the team.

They replace outgoing executive committee members Dr Mark Sanford-Wood and Dr Krishna Kasaraneni as well as former chair of GPC England Dr Richard Vautrey.

BMA GPC England chair Dr Farah Jameel said: ‘I am delighted to introduce my new team Dean Eggitt, Kieran Sharrock and Richard Van Mellaerts and congratulate them on their appointment as members of the BMA GPC England executive team, at such a pivotal time for our patients and the profession.

‘I would like to thank outgoing chair Richard Vautrey and my outgoing executive team, Mark Sanford-Wood and Krishna Kasaraneni, for their outstanding commitment to general practice spanning many years and throughout the pandemic.’

She added: ‘As I said in my opening speech as chair, it is essential that we work with the Government to begin to rebuild general practice, so that it can be there to care for our patients.

‘With such experienced leaders supporting the committee, I have every confidence that we will continue to represent GPs and their teams, and through them our patients, on the issues that matter most.’

Dr Farah Jameel was elected to replace Dr Richard Vautrey in the GPC England chair role last month.
