Practices to be given free contractual advice as medical defence member benefit

A medical defence organisation will begin to offer GPs free and discounted legal advice on ‘non-indemnity’ issues, such as mergers, properties and contracts, as a new member benefit.

The MDDUS said its new partnership with healthcare specialist law firm Capsticks Solicitors would see GPs and practice managers able to ‘take advantage of up to 20 minutes of free business and corporate legal advice, as well as gaining access to Capsticks’ full range of practice and business legal services at specially discounted rates’.

MDDUS director of development David Sturgeon said this benefit would give practices access to ‘legal advice on issues such as commercial and business issues, all types of property work, practice mergers and acquisitions, partnership agreements and disputes as well as primary care contracts’.

He said: ‘We are delighted to work alongside Capsticks to ensure that our members’ needs will be enhanced further with access to advice on non-indemnity issues… We seek to evolve our products to keep pace with the changing market while remaining committed to providing a high-quality, responsive and personal service and championing the best interests of our members.’

Sam Hopkins, head of Capsticks’ GP legal support team, said his team ‘look[s] forward to supporting [MDDUS] GP and practice manager members with their non-indemnity legal issues during what is a particularly challenging time for GPs and practice managers’.
