Pulse senior clinical reporter Lilian Anekwe scooped a prestigious award from the Medical Journalists' Association last night in a category dominated by Pulse.
Lilian took the award for best professional readership (news) for her exclusive story last May revealing how an internal NHS investigation into the death of an elderly patient had exposed the failings of private provider Clinicenta.
Two of the three runners up in the category were also Pulse journalists. PulseToday deputy editor Nigel Praities was shortlisted for an investigation which found as many as half of specialists taking referrals from GPs at some hospitals are not medically qualified, while Pulse deputy editor Steve Nowottny's story on complications suffered by patients after being misdiagnosed with swine flu also made the list.
Last night's award represents Pulse's fourth major award win in the past twelve months. Pulse won Publication of the Year at last summer's MJA awards and best news coverage in the 2010 Trade Association Business Publications International awards. Last month, Pulse senior reporter Gareth Iacobucci also won the Journalist to Watch award at the WorkWorld Media Awards for economic and employment journalism.
