Professor Nigel Sparrow comes in at number 39 in the 2013 Pulse Power 50. He has fallen four places from last year’s list.
Hailed as an ‘unsung hero’ by our panel, Professor Nigel Sparrow is not a man to shy away from a tough job.
He is a key figure in GP professional development, heading up revalidation at the RCGP and serving as an adviser to the CQC. A GP in Nottingham, Professor Sparrow is also a visiting professor of general practice at the University of Lincoln.
Professor Sparrow prompted controversy in June when he revealed that the inspections would attempt to measure how caring and compassionate practices are.
He says: ‘General practice is not an easy thing to measure, so we have got the challenge ahead over the next few years to ensure the things that we measure are useful and meaningful and actually recognise the true quality of general practice.’
