44. Dr Margaret McCartney

Dr Margaret McCartney comes in at number 44 in the 2013 Pulse Power 50. She has fallen 21 places from last year’s list.

The inimitable Dr Margaret McCartney makes the top 50 for the third year running for her writing in Pulse, the BMJ and elsewhere.

The Glasgow GP is currently working on her second book, and voters told us her debut ‘helped to change the debate on harms associated with screening and over-medicalisation’.

This year she wrote a rallying cry for GPs to lead the measles catch-up campaign, and a kick in the teeth for telehealth champions. She has also been praised as a ‘thorn in the side of private screening companies’.

Dr McCartney is a GP and undergraduate tutor in Glasgow and is currently writing her second book
