5. Dr Kristy Lau

As a professional woman with an energetic six-year-old child, Dr Kristy Lau is familiar with the challenge of juggling family and work commitments.

In the past year she has put that experience to good use as the face of the Six Weeks Support campaign, to lobby for self-employed women to receive the same financial support as their employed counterparts in the first six weeks of their babies’ lives.

Despite having no previous media training, Dr Lau has made appearances on BBC Radio 4 and ITV News, and fronted the campaign in the Daily Mirror, Huffington Post, Daily Express and Daily Mail.

When not campaigning for equal maternity pay, Dr Lau combines NHS practice as a locum in Kent and London with work for the private home-visiting service GP Delivered Quick (GPDQ).

She also has an interest in aesthetic medicine, which she has developed into a specialist clinic for Chinese clients.
