GPs will be wary of any more reform

26 Oct 2011
Some GPs may welcome a new contract setting out their core responsibilities, but this could be a reform too far.

I am not interested in bidding for extra work done in the community. What I would like is adequate resources to do the work I was trained to do, which is seeing undifferentiated cases in my surgery and diagnosing, treating if possible or referring on if necessary.

I would like those core duties remunerated adequately so I can make a living doing those, God knows, there is enough work there to fill my time.

Let other people bid and do the 'extras' such as warfarin monitoring. I have enough to do with the day job. What I object to is being underfunded for the core job so that I am forced to scrabble around gathering small pots of money so I can do the bread and butter work of general practice.

Anna Dixon obviously does not value this essential work as she wants me to be distracted by 'diversifying'.
