2012 the year in review: The Hopeless Optimist of the Year award

Winner

Relentless optimism is not something that GPs as a breed are known for. So credit where credit’s due to Professor Nigel Sparrow, the new revalidation lead at the RCGP, who wins this prize for his cheerful insistence that revalidation should be ‘something that GPs enjoy doing’. Something to keep in mind when sourcing your 360o feedback and digesting your CPD over the next few months.

Runner-up

NICE, for its recommendation that GPs screen everyone aged 40 years and over for pre-diabetes. How, exactly?
