Praised by colleagues for his ‘strong approach to GP issues,’ Dr Chandra Kanneganti is something of a prodigy.
At just 39, he is the youngest doctor to be elected as chair of the British International Doctors Association.
As an observer on the RCGP Council, he was instrumental in ensuring the British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin and BIDA worked closely again with the college following the MRCGP exam row.
He is also a GP trainer, appraiser, GPC IT subcommittee member, a member of NHS Stoke-on-Trent CCG board responsible for community services, NHS 111 clinical lead for Staffordshire and most recently a CQC adviser for primary care.
The worst thing about the past year, he says, has been the worsening of the recruitment crisis with the increasing number of First 5 GPs going abroad to work.
His plea to those GPs leaving: ‘Please stay here and work for our country. The future of general practice is going to get better.’
