35. Dr Chris Williams

Dr Chris Williams comes in at number 35 in the 2013 Pulse Power 50. He is a new entry in the list.

GPC member Dr Chris Williams was nominated as one to watch by several of his peers, who praised him as ‘visionary and level-headed’, and a ‘young and very active’ BMA member who ‘will go far in medical politics’.

A locum GP in the Scottish Highlands, Dr Williams has made a name for himself championing the interests of rural GPs – a group that often feels somewhat disenfranchised.

He also has a keen interest in medical education, sitting on the GPC’s education and training workforce subcommittee and on the RCGP North of Scotland faculty board.

For Dr Williams himself, the opportunity to speak to colleagues at the LMCs conference was the year’s highlight and he feels ‘gobsmacked’ to be nominated for Pulse Power 40.

He adds: ‘General practice is full of people who bust a gut to get things done for patients. It means a lot to know that some of my peers know about some of the things that I do.’

It seems we are more than likely to continue to hear from this self-professed caffeine-fuelled highland doctor, whose passion for snowboarding, cycling and hiking helps retain his peace of mind and focus him for the job ahead.

‘I predict a bright future in medico-politics,’ says one peer.
